The Top 10 Teams Right Now on Friday, April 16th.

1. Colorado Avalanche (Last week — #1)
After suffering an 8-3 beatdown courtesy of the Wild last Wednesday, the Avs have won four straight and remain at the top of the league standings. Only question I have with this team is about goaltending. I know Grubauer has been excellent, but is Dubnyk really the insurance net-minder you want? I figured GM Joe Sakic would go to extreme lengths to prevent a repeat of last year's playoffs, but he didn't.

2. Vegas Golden Knights (Last week — #7)
The Knights are riding their own four-game winning streak and Marc-Andre Fleury took sole possession of 4th all-time in wins in the Wednesday victory over the Kings.

3. New York Islanders (Last week — #2)
Since splitting the weekend set with the Rangers, the Isles fell victim to the newly revamped Bruins, but there's no reason to panic. The East is such a tough and competitive division, there are bound to be speed bumps.

4. Toronto Maple Leafs (Last week — #5)
Pretty high for a team coming off three straight losses, but the Leafs deadline was just that good. Auston Matthews didn't suit up in yesterday's loss to the Jets — most likely an overly-cautious approach to a minor ailment, but the Leafs can't relax too much if they want to secure home ice for the Canadian tournament with the Jets hot on their tails.

5. Carolina Hurricanes (Last week — #3)
The Canes lost two in a row to the Central's worst Detroit Red Wings, but had a nice bounce-back win over Nashville.

6. Washington Capitals (Last week — #4)
Earlier this week, the Capitals outscored the Bruins and Flyers 14-2, winning in dominant fashion. Nick Backstrom lost his 1000th NHL game to the Sabres, which must be disappointing, but the Caps held a fitting celebration for one of the greatest play-makers of all-time. They also picked up Anthony Mantha, who has 2 goals in 1 assist in 2 games.

7. Tampa Bay Lightning (Last week — #8)
When Andrei Vasilevskiy plays, this is the best team in the league. When he doesn't play, they lose 7-2 to Nashville. That is a rare beat down for the reigning champs, who also welcomed David Savard this week. They quickly got back on course with an OT win over Florida.

8. Florida Panthers (Last week — #6)
Some nice additions after an iffy week of hockey for the Cats at the deadline, who are hanging tight with the Bolts and Canes atop the Central.

9. Winnipeg Jets (Last week — Not ranked)
The Jets were the most disappointing team at the deadline. With just one more nice defensive piece, this team would be ready to beat anyone. They're still an excellent club, but my god if Kevin Cheveldayoff never risks anything, the Jets will have trouble winning, especially when you have teams like the Leafs who add considerable depth pieces at the deadline.

10. Pittsburgh Penguins (Last week — Not ranked)
Crosby has this team rolling along pretty nicely. Goaltending and defense have been questionable in Pittsburgh at times this year, but they certainly look like a playoff lock at this point.
